FESTIVE SEASON AWAY FROM HOME

Christmas for me has always involved packing and going on trips with my family. At times go to the village and have a gathering with my extended family. This is the season of interactions and getting to know what each member of the family has been up to the whole year. Engaging in different activities together is our definition of bonding time. Some might say Christmas is overrated but for us, it is what we look forward to every start of December. This season things are a little bit different, not just for us but the entire world. With the rising number of COVID 19 cases all around the world, all indoors and outdoors gatherings were banned. Family gatherings have been greatly discouraged, for this reason let me give you highlights of Christmas in school.

Funny right😂? Christmas in school. Anyways let’s get straight to it. So, after getting a call from my mom on 23rd of December I had a mixture of thoughts. One that really got to me was going home not being the best idea. I had interacted with so many people in school who came from different parts of this country. Going home would actually mean I was going to put my family at risk. I didn’t know my then current health state, maybe I was an asymptomatic, you never know nothing nowadays. Christmas is great, but there was going to be lots more in future. This had been one of the toughest decisions in life but it was worth the sacrifice.

For students who remained in school, this festive season was like any other normal days. Some had already experienced this in the past. Especially those who come from the farthest parts of the country and are expected to be in school early the following year. Remaining in school is the only way of saving on transport. Now with social distance being observed in public service vehicles, it’s even harder to travel for transport fare is twice the normal.Click here to watch a video. For this reason, many had no option but to stay in school.

Boredom didn’t completely take over ourlives (for someone who would ask) we had our own way of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Which included cooking with a few friends over, playing different indoor games (Ludo, leps world and Pubg) and engaging ourselves in different conversations. This was our definition of fun. After that we video called our parents at home and what I got was their Christmas was as peaceful as ours. At the end of the day no one was exposed to COVID 19, and we were all safe.

Someone who might have thought all this was impossible, well we made it happen. The ministry of health should have given us a plus one on this. Just kidding😂😂. Its not that hard to protect the ones you love from this deadly disease. All it takes is putting others before yourself. I hope I’m not turning into a motivational speaker. Meanwhile how did you spend your Christmas? Feel free to interact with me.
