COVID-19 AND HYGIENE

 Hand washing has been one of the most important ways of controlling the spread of most infectious diseases. With COVID 19 pandemic,it has been highly regarded as key to preventing this disease. Many have been forced to adhere to different measures and regulations given by the ministry of health which include; frequently washing hands with soap and running water, social distancing especially in crowded places, wearing masks, avoiding social gatherings among others.

In Moi university main campus students are seen to have greatly improved their hand hygiene. At the entrance of each school, they have set up hand washing places, each student who wants to access the schools has to pass by and wash their hands with soap and running water or else they’ll be denied entry. This is not limited to students only, but also applies to everyone else who wants to have access into the premises. Hand sanitizers have also been put in place upon entrance to the school and some students have taken upon themselves to make it a priority to carry their own hand sanitizers.

All these sounds perfect right? Well let me break it down for you. After days of observing the daily hand washing routine it came to my knowledge that most students and workers only follow the regulations because somebody somewhere is watching. When it comes to places with no security guards to direct and monitor the hand washing process, it’s a whole different story. No one bothers to follow these measures put in place. This has been one of the measures that students find hard to adapt. In the past, no one ever thought that there would come a day where hand hygiene would be given such importance. Hand washing was only  done when one felt the hands were dirty or before a meal. It's a whole different story now.

Most of the students are really trying to ensure they keep themselves and those around them safe. However, those that will lag us behind are the ones that just do it because they are seen. They are a threat to the ones keeping safe and they should style up so that we can quickly beat this pandemic. It is upto us to protect ourselves and the community around us.

    Great work Manasseh it is a shame though that people have to be followed for them to wash their hands those are the ones threatening us!

    I came to an understanding that, since the start of constantly washing hands, we have avoided many stomach related illness. But this is a good piece of information.

    Thank you for reminding us that regular hand washing ,especially during this pandemic ,is the best way to remove germs ,avoid getting sick and prevent the spread of the ‘rona’ to others.

 I recently had a ride on a motorbike, from home to Eldoret town and my driver engaged me in an interesting conversation. Well, you know what got everyone talking these days, the life threatening virus. It did occur to me that most of the people at home are very ignorant when it comes to matters of Covid 19.
